Educator's Innovation Awards and Grants Program
The NL Education Foundation is pleased to provide an annual NL Educator's Innovation Awards and Grants program which is open to teachers throughout the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. The Foundation is pleased to provide up to 10 project awards and 10 project grants to deserving individuals each school year to continue to foster engagement among young learners.

Information and criteria on the most recent program can be found below. Details will be updated prior to the commencement of next annual program.

Please note:

  • An individual project can only be submitted for Award OR Grant consideration in a given year.
  • Numerous projects per school can apply in a given year, but only one project per school can be successful unless otherwise stipulated by the Education Foundation Committee.
  • Partner/group projects will be considered, but educators must specify which single school will be directed the funds should they be successful.
  • Should a given region not have enough eligible submissions, the review committee will chose a recipient from among the entire pool of entries based on the scoring criteria.

NL Educator's Innovative Award 2017
The NL Education Foundation Inc. of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is seeking applications for an NL Educator's Innovation Award in recognition of work currently underway in District schools. A total of ten $2,500 awards have been made available and will be provided regionally as follows: Labrador (1), Western (2), Central (3), and Eastern (4).

Please note, monies for the successful applicants will be provided to the educator's associated school to be earmarked for the initiative outlined by the applicant.

Award Eligibility and Criteria:
Indiscriminate of teaching level, years of service or educational focus, eligibility for the awards include those individuals who:

  • are permanent or full-time replacement teachers of the NLESD;
  • are in good standing with NLESD's Human Resources Division and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development's Teacher Certification Division;
  • aim to create an innovative learning environment;
  • can demonstrate an increase in student learning linked to the teacher's innovative approach; and,
  • are prepared to provide at least one presentation on their innovative approach at NLESD Professional Development opportunities either via Lync or in person at a future date, to be determined in consultation with District staff.

Applications must include:

  • A completed application form, as provided by the Education Foundation;
  • A project outline/abstract (maximum 1,000 words);
  • A project synopsis for potential publication (maximum 250 words);
  • A letter of support/endorsement from school principal;
  • One peer- support letter; and,
  • Supporting documentation showing evidence of an increase in student learning.
  • Video and/or pictures demonstrating the initiative are not required, but are encouraged.
Completed applications should be emailed to foundationinnovation@nlesd.ca or received at an NLESD regional office no later than 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017.. (UPDATED!)

NL Educator's Innovative Grant 2017
The NL Education Foundation Inc. of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is seeking applications for an NL Educator's Innovation Grant to assist eligible teachers explore avenues for innovation in education. A total of ten $2,500 grants have been made available and will be provided regionally as follows: Labrador (1), Western (2), Central (3), and Eastern (4).

Please note, monies for the successful applicants will be provided to the educator's associated school to be earmarked for the initiative outlined by the applicant.

Grant Eligibility and Criteria:
Indiscriminate of teaching level, years of service or educational focus, eligibility for the awards include those individuals who:

  • are permanent or full-time replacement teachers of the NLESD;
  • are in good standing with NLESD's Human Resources Division and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development's Teacher Certification Division;
  • aim to create an innovative learning environment;
  • are prepared to provide at least one presentation on their innovative approach at NLESD Professional Development opportunities at a future date, to be determined in consultation with District staff; and,
  • are willing to work with the other successful grant recipients in a given year to formulate a paper making sound, evidence-based recommendations for innovation in education within NLESD (work on the paper will be undertaken through Google Docs and will be due to be submitted to the Education Foundation by December 31st of the year the grant has been received).
An application form from the Education Foundation must be completed and the submission package must:
  • Demonstrate how the proposed initiative will promote innovation and foster student engagement;
  • Include a project proposal (maximum 1,000 words or a less than 5 minute video) that outlines the opportunity/resource available, how the teacher's participation will be of benefit to future students and how the opportunity will assist the teacher/school/District build on established capabilities;
  • Include a project synopsis for potential publication (maximum 250 words);
  • Indicate whether match-funding is potentially available if the grant application is successful (from applicant's school, outside organization, etc);
  • Include available information on the learning opportunity or resource that has motivated the educator to apply for the grant; and,
  • Contain a letter of support/endorsement from current school principal.
